Learning through experience
Learning through experience is probably first learning technique which was assimilated by people. Experience is the factor which makes us learn on all levels: unconsciousness, consciousness. It is the easiest way to get knowledge because it acts as theory as much as practice. Its main component is habit. People get used to react in certain way when certain excitant is launched. On a deeper level it is linked to reflexes.
Learning through experience features: individual reflexes; knowledge and information baggage; means and techniques for better understanding of information; individual system or parameters for information classification and understanding.
This type of learning includes a subtype which is individual learning. It was proved that people learn better from their own experience than from other people' experiences. Still, it regards more personal life experience, while social, economic, and technical, etc. experience is well transferred from a generation to another.
Learning through experience involves all parts of person's life: moral, sentimental, logical, physical, etc. It is not so important what experience a person can get, it is much more important how this experience is used and whether it helps or not. Personal experience helps people even in their career by adding individual attitude to a certain work matter. Also it is known that if a person understands on experience level why a certain job, thing need to be done then responsibility is bigger and job is done better.
Experience is acquired by practical application of knowledge. That is why a specialist can be a specialist only in case when his/her experience is based on practicing. There are acquired and performed skills, abilities, capacities, etc. Motivation is an important factor for experience gathering too. In a person has motivation to learn, he/she automatically obtain experience.
What are advantages and disadvantages of this type of learning?
Advantages: reduction of stress; high effectiveness; long period memorization without additional efforts; lack of tension; memorization is not a programmed process it happens voluntarily, unforced; raises productivity and applicability.
Disadvantages: selective memorization of specific information; long lasting process with later impact; uncontrolled process; can lead to unexpected and incorrect results.
