Girls’ sexual development

Puberty is an important time for every girl as changes happening with her body prepare her body for further motherhood. Actually, there is no such thing as a right time when puberty starts, though girls start to develop earlier than boys as a rule. Generally body begins to change between 8 and 14 years old. So what happens with your body during puberty?

1. Changes in body shape.
Probably the first sign of pubertal changes is breasts growth. Usually breast get bigger you may notice that they become a bit swollen. Changes in your breasts will continue a few years until they get the size and shape that will stay unchanged. Don’t be shy if your breasts developed earlier than with other girls. As we are all individual, changes in our bodies undergo the same individual cycles.
Your hips are getting wider and your belly, legs and bottom will take a plump shape. You shouldn’t worry about it, as the fat you are gaining is necessary for further motherhood. Your other parts may also grow by fits and starts, soon it will be which doesn’t mean that these changes will be permanent. Very soon your body will get more balanced.

2. Changes in skin
Changes in gland functioning will result in more greasy skin and acne (pimples) are often to appear in this period. It’s quite a common case among teenagers to have acne as a result of hormones growth. For the same reason, you may also sweat a little more than usual. You may improve the situation, caring about your skin washing and cleaning it properly.

3. Hair growth
You may have noticed hair grow in your pubic area, in your armpits, on your legs. Many women shave all hair for aesthetic reasons. That is completely your choice. If you feel more comfortable with your hair shaved, then use woman’s razor or other way of depilation to remove unwanted hair.

4. Menses
Menstruation is a very important event in a girl’s life. Usually first menstruation occurs between 9 and 15 years old. During menses, which usually last from 3 to 7 days you will have bleeding. There is nothing wrong happening with you. It’s just means that your ovaries started to work and release eggs and you are able to get pregnant. Menstrual cycle will occur every month though at the beginning this cycle can be quite irregular due to hormonal fluctuations. Women use pads and tampons at this period to absorb all the fluids and feel more comfortable. You may decide on any of them and choose the one which suits you the best.

5. Emotional changes
All the changes that happen with your body will certainly affect your emotional state to a greater or lesser extent. You may feel insecure or uncomfortable at times and pay much attention to your body than earlier. It is quite natural for every person to experience nervousness and discomfort during puberty. You will need to find support among your friends and parents. Don’t be shy to ask for advice and share your emotions. A lot of people of your age have same feelings and can understand you better than you may even think. You should realize that all the changes are temporary and you simply have to go through it to become mature.
